While trying to make somekind of mechanism I made something like a conveyer masively making those mini robots out of radioactive junk. Don't know if there are similar storys, but I came up with an idea that they were made to destroy everything by unknown person. Nevertheless they were frendly and admired living creatures, flora and everything else what actualy lives, but they never even could get close to them cause every crature dies due to the radioactivity they had (meybe thats how they were programed in order to find and destroy as many life forms as posible). While the time was running they started realizing this and began living in caves hidden in devasted areas. Even when they done that, time after time sad things have happened. after many many years of pain and suffer the radioactivity that they had vanished as well as they're energy, but the earth has covered them and outstanding flora started growing in that place.
