Another poster

I just started doing it yesterday for a third very sweet concert in my town :D . It should resemble hardcore punk spirit, but I just wanted to know if somebody have their own opinion about such kind of posters and maybe could help me to improve it. My friends asked me to show somehow that that fist stinks and I just have no idea how to do that.. lol. I tried adding flies, a cloud of green gass, but in my opinion it just ruins that beautiful fist. There is also missing a lot of information such as: date, place, third band and stuff...The real date of the concert should be I think on th 29th of august. By the way a lot of drawings is coming for the 101 project. All the ideas started repeating and as I thought it will be very hard to fit in only one sheet of paper, but different works of my course friends inspired me to try harder.

Upgraded Poster

Maybe I could crack that thumbnail a bit more but I think flies and red marks done their work pretty fine. I think this one would look on T-shirts to remember good too. :D

  1. 'Analfists" ... So, not a folk group then? Ha ha :-)

At risk of suggesting you visit some 'inappropriate websites', I think maybe some sado/masochist imagery might help 'contextualise' this image; the connotations here are very obviously connected to a particular strand of gay subculture, and the punk band is obviously trying to be as provocative as possible... you may need to scare yourself a little in regard to image research - and that's all this tutor is prepared to say on the matter... You've been warned (and please don't post any of your research images: not sure the CGAA community is ready for that!).

More generally, it's exciting to see that you're very active in terms of making work to the briefs of others and engaging creatively; you've got a strong, graphical style and clear love of drawing, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing how you engage with cg and the demands of the course.

anyway, maybe a single fly could work - or a discoloured thumbnail?

  2. Well that is truly provocative, sometimes depressive and usually aggressive rock'n roll band. Theyre known for some shocking shows they had before, but I'm realy not into that kind of things If you thought so :DD I'm more into things like garage/surf or skate punk, oldschool hip hop... Those styles are much more close to me.

I'm used to work with such graphic things like posters or covers, but during studies I will try to focus more on maya and all that 3d stuff which is a totaly new world for me.

And finaly I don't want to shock people and won't go too far :D most of those ideas are not mine, usually those people who want to make somekind of covers, layouts or labels have already thought about what exactly they want and I just try to realize it. And the tips that you mentionet probably could realy work out. :D

  3. I agree with Phil, i reckon you should go with a cracked tar infested thumbnail, which im sure there are thousands of reference images for. There could possibly be a fly or two resting on the top of the knuckles and then possibly something in the wrist region, maybe an aged tattoo which could represent some sort of meaning or possible link to being dirty???

  4. Good idea! I'll have this in my mind. And by saying that I shouldn't show research images... Does it mean that I shouldn't show improvement of posters like that or just sources that I used for the ideas (ofcourse if they are not appropriate for all of the people)?

  7. Hey Domantas - I just mean 'don't show any research images you might find after googling 'anal&fist'! (For obvious reasons). In regard to posting images of the development of your poster - yes, absolutely!

  10. for me, I think one fly is enough - the one on the wrist is cool, the other two I'm less convinced by...

  11. There is no problem to delete those two. I had some problems to make them looking more realisticly standing on knuckles. Eventualy my friends now are satisfied about this poster even if I did't changed alot. And Thanks again everybody for sharing your opinions and stuff, It realy helps. :)
